ThunderRidge teacher selected for national honor
TULSA – The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) has named high school teacher Jackie Bath the 2015 AAPG Foundation’s Teacher of the Year.
Bath has been an educator at ThunderRidge High School (TRHS) for 18 years, and currently teaches earth sciences and geology. In a news release, the AAPG stated, "from podcast lectures and interactive tutorials, to simulations, labs and direct exposure to local, regional and global issues, Bath creates a sort of geological utopia, in which students are encouraged to immerse themselves and make real-world decisions."
The AAPG Teacher of the Year honor includes a $6,000 prize; $3,000 of the prize will be awarded to TRHS for Bath to translate into educational opportunities for students.
“My career, as an earth science educator has been a journey,” Bath said. “My passion for geology and the geosciences provides inspiration to develop activities that actively engage students in meaningful ways.”
