CRE Builds Community by Giving Back

This fall, students in K-6th grade at Castle Rock came together to make a big impact in the Castle Rock community. 

The PTO sponsored a Canned Food Drive to take place before Thanksgiving. Students and parents had one week to donate as many canned and non-perishable food items as they were able. In total, over 1100 lbs of food were donated to the Douglas Elbert Task Force food bank located in Castle Rock! 

Shortly after, CRE's 5th grade students came together to create a fundraiser for Hurricane Matthew relief through the American Red Cross. Along with Mrs. Parks, CRE's art teacher, the 5th graders offered a school-wide pajama day for $1 and put together goodie bags of treats and fun for an additional $1. Students and staff participated in the event and, in total, raised over $415 for donation! 

Upon learning that a student within the Douglas County Schools area was in need of funds to use toward a Make-A-Wish opportunity, CRE staff and 6th graders joined forces to host CRE's first Parents Night Out event on Friday, December 3. The event featured a holiday movie favorite (with concessions), games and a craft. The event pulled in 68 kids and everyone had a wonderful time. The total raised from the event is still being tabulated. Check back for updates within the next few days.

District News

The Douglas County School District Board of Education welcomes Dr. Thomas S. Tucker into the role of Superintendent of Douglas County School District. Dr. Tucker officially leads the 68,000 student district as of July 1, 2018.


Nearly 1,500 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year, with 42 being named recipients. Of those, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proudly home to four recipients.


When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
