Acres Green Leadership Day 2018

On May 15, 2018, the students at Acres Green Elementary participated in our annual Leadership Day to explore and demonstrate their leadership skills.  The intermediate grades partner up all year with the primary students to form mentor/mentee relationships. On the Leadership Day, the mentor/mentee groups met to build Bags of Hope.  They filled gallon sized ziploc bags with supplies for the less fortunate in our community. We collected donations from our school families and surrounding companies and created more than 500 bags!  Our students included encouraging messages with each bag. These bags were then given to local charities to be distributed to the homeless in Douglas and Elbert counties. We continue to be proud of the compassion of our students, staff and families and their outreach efforts in our community.

When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
