Rocky Heights Middle School designated a Colorado Trailblazer School To Watch

HIGHLANDS RANCH—Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS) has been selected as a Colorado School to Watch by the Colorado Association of Middle Level Education (CAMLE).

The Colorado Trailblazer School to Watch initiative was created eight years ago to showcase evidence-based strategies at statewide and regional conferences, workshops, and school site visits. RHMS is one of 16 schools in the state to earn this distinction.

The process began a few months ago with an initial application. From there, the process increasingly became more in-depth and included every member of the RHMS staff as well as a panel of parents who clearly demonstrated that RHMS is the best middle school for their students. A team from CAMLE visited RHMS and observed every single classroom, interviewed teachers and administrators and spoke with students and parents. They quickly learned that RHMS is a high-performing middle school that is academically excellent, responsive to developmental challenges and socially equitable holding high expectations for all students. These are the tenets of a Colorado School to Watch.

When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
