Preschool Parents: Weather Cancelation Notice

Following the recent snowstorm, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) has reviewed its preschool cancelation policies and is making a change to clarify and simplify the process for our youngest learners and their families.

While 90-minute delays are rare, they do happen. Their impact is felt by:

  • Increased risk for our youngest learners who are transported to school by the district or their families
  • A significant decrease in instructional time for students
  • A historically low attendance rate in A.M. classes

As a result, starting today, February 25, DCSD will cancel morning preschool programs, when District schools are placed on a 90-minute delay (except for the ECC-S full day program, which will follow a 90-minute delay). If the delay is not District-wide, only preschool sessions in the affected region(s) will be canceled.

As always, when the District decides to close schools, morning, afternoon and full-day sessions will be canceled, again, in the impacted region(s).

Notices about District delays and closures are available on DCSD's website at, its mobile app and social media channels.

When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
