Ponderosa High School claims 4A Boys Lacrosse State Championship

DENVER – On the same turf that the Denver Broncos won the AFC Championship in January, the Ponderosa Mustangs proved they too are champions.

On Saturday May 17 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Ponderosa’s Boys Lacrosse team beat the defending champion Wheat Ridge Farmers, becoming the 2014 Colorado 4A Boys Lacrosse State Champions.

The Farmers didn’t go down without a fight. While Ponderosa had held a convincing lead throughout the game, leading 7-4 at halftime and 12-7 at the end of the third quarter, in the final quarter Wheat Ridge mounted a come back.

In the end, Ponderosa was able to hang one, claiming the title with a 13-11 win, in what some would call a “major upset in Colorado high school lacrosse,” according to CHSAA’s Dan Mohrmann.

Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
