Students Spark Some Fun into Learning


The November meet-up for Create Something Great took place at the Innovation Pavilion in Centennial. Students began the evening by showing educators how to program and guide robots.


Our keynote, Lindsay Levkoff Diamond from SparkFun! in Boulder captured the attention of the audience with the compelling story of how SparkFun! came to be. It began because of a business problem that the then, college student Nathan Seidel, the founder and CEO of SparkFun! wanted to solve. He needed 1 electronic part for a college project and could not purchase the part anywhere inside the US. This sparked the idea to build his own business providing single electronic parts for purchase. SparkFun! began with one employee working out of his home and is now a multi - million dollar business with 150 employees with their own building.

Breakout Learning Sessions included an electronics project offered by a SparkFun! team and Minecraft and coding session offered by Matt Pacione from Discovery Canyon Campus Middle School in Colorado Springs District 20.

District News

The Douglas County School District Board of Education welcomes Dr. Thomas S. Tucker into the role of Superintendent of Douglas County School District. Dr. Tucker officially leads the 68,000 student district as of July 1, 2018.


Nearly 1,500 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year, with 42 being named recipients. Of those, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proudly home to four recipients.


When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
