A Day in the Life of the Library

Library Orientation 2015

Newly hired library staff, as well as experienced learning commons staff members, joined the Innovation and Design Center (IDC) Team for Librarian Orientation training this first week of August.

The sessions provided library staff the opportunity to experience a typical “Day in the Life of the Library”.  Staff members were provided a list of common “what would you do” scenarios they will most likely face on their first day at school. The IDC staff carefully considered questions that would encourage participants to research resources as well as experience firsthand daily library tasks.

The learning environment was set up so librarians could attend specific sessions that targeted their individual needs.  IDC staff members were close at hand to provide the resources needed to complete their tasks.

Attendees learned how to check out library books, access digital content, and had the opportunity to gather programming ideas from Linda Conway, the Director of Library Media Programming.  Other concepts shared were how librarians in the district are transforming their libraries to inspire learning, and in what way they can market robotics in their schools as part of a computer science curriculum.

The Innovation and Design Center’s training never ends.  Staff members are available year around to provide support and resources for Library staff along with teachers and district staff.

District News

The Douglas County School District Board of Education welcomes Dr. Thomas S. Tucker into the role of Superintendent of Douglas County School District. Dr. Tucker officially leads the 68,000 student district as of July 1, 2018.


Nearly 1,500 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year, with 42 being named recipients. Of those, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proudly home to four recipients.


When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
