CASTLE ROCK - At the start of each school year, many parents are looking for opportunities to get involved in their school community.
Two opportunities can be found in your School Accountability Committee (SAC) and the District Accountability Committee (DAC). These committees represent the local control of each school in the District and are required by Colorado state law.
All parents & community members are invited and encouraged to attend both SAC and DAC meetings. The input these committees provide to the school and District leadership are based directly upon the feedback collected from parents and community members.
School Accountability Committee
State law requires that every school have a School Accountability Committee (SAC) The purpose of the committee is to inform, encourage and provide opportunities for parent and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program and quality improvement processes. Each SAC is comprised of parents, community members, principals and teachers.
Topics discussed at SAC include:
• Current School Issues
• School specific budget priorities
• School Unified Improvement Plan (UIP)
If you don’t know when your SAC meets, please visit your school’s website or ask your Principal for the meeting schedule. Additionally, there is a list of SAC websites on the DAC website, under SAC resources.
District Accountability Committee
The District Accountability Committee (DAC) meets monthly throughout the year and makes recommendations to the Douglas County School District Board of Education regarding spending district money, charter school applications, improvement plans and parent engagement plans. The committee's members also make recommendations for areas and issues for study, as well as teacher and principal assessment tools. DAC values ongoing feedback from each school’s SAC and provides information back to the SAC to be shared with each school community.
Learn more about DAC and see a schedule of meeting dates on the DAC website or DAC Facebook.
