December 11 Board Meeting

The Douglas County Board of Education convened for a public meeting at 5 p.m. on December 11, 2014. The Board discussed business items and engaged public comment from a crowd of students, parents, teachers, and community members. Student and staff recognition

Two quartets from Ponderosa High School provided entertainment at the beginning of the Board of Education meeting. The group also shared details regarding the upcoming Continental League Music Festival on January 12, 2015 at the Boettcher Concert Hall. A number of DCSD students are expected to take part in the concert.

Jack Arrowsmith and Sheri Davis from the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder's Office provided an overview of the Student Election Judge Program.

Draft FY 2013-2014 Audit and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) Presentation
Chief Financial Officer Bonnie Betz and Director of Finance Jana Schleusner presented the draft FY 2013-2014 audit and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The external auditor has submitted to the District the external audit. The results were shared with the Fiscal Oversight Committee on November 6, 2014. All financial statements are complete and audited.

Full-Day Kindergarten Tuition
Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Ted Knight informed directors of a proposed change to full-day kindergarten tuition, not to exceed $3,205 per student.

Directors voted by a margin of 7-0 to approve the change in kindergarten tuition.

District News

The Douglas County School District Board of Education welcomes Dr. Thomas S. Tucker into the role of Superintendent of Douglas County School District. Dr. Tucker officially leads the 68,000 student district as of July 1, 2018.


Nearly 1,500 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year, with 42 being named recipients. Of those, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proudly home to four recipients.


When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
