The Douglas County Board of Education convened for business at 5 p.m. on June 16, 2015. The Board conducted business items and engaged public comment from a crowd of students, parents, teachers, and community members. Student and Staff Recognitions

Track and Field recognitionsThe Board of Education is proud to recognize the achievements of some of our amazing athletes, coaches and an outstanding student photographer.

First, the BOE welcomed all of our Track and Field Champions.

  • Trevor Rex: Highlands Ranch High School, High Jump 6.09 feet
  • Christopher Linnin: Castle View High School, Triple Jump 46.095 feet
  • Emily Sloan: Rock Canyon High School, 100 Meter Hurdles 14.11 seconds
  • Christina Stathakis: Castle View High School, Pole Vault 11.09 feet
  • Jennifer Calascione Chaparral High School, Discus 131.09 feet

Congratulations to these track and field athletes.

RCHS Baseball Coach Tyler Munro

Next, the BOE welcomed the Rock Canyon Boys Baseball Coach Tyler Munro.

The Jaguars showed a lot of resiliency this spring, overcoming one of the wettest and stormy Mays in recent memory, to not only win their first-ever Continental League Championship, but to also become 5A State Champions!

Congratulations to the Rock Canyon High School Baseball Team!

Next, the BOE welcomed DCSD High School Boys Swim and Dive Coach Cristina Kwon and state champion Gabriele Sasia.

Kwon was recently recognized as the 2015 Continental League Coach of the Year Award. Her team is made up of schools all over Douglas County including, Highlands Ranch, Rock Canyon and ThunderRidge High Schools. One of her swimmers is a state champion this year.

Sasia, a junior at STEM High, won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.16 seconds at the 5A state championships last month.

Lastly, the BOE recognized Maddie Malhorta, a recent Chaparral High School graduate who was named the Colorado High School Press Association Photographer of the Year for the second straight year. The recognition is the first time the organization has honored a repeat winner.

Next year, Maddie plans to attend Boston University, majoring in journalism with a focus in photojournalism.

Maddie's award was accepted by her mother.

District News

The Douglas County School District Board of Education welcomes Dr. Thomas S. Tucker into the role of Superintendent of Douglas County School District. Dr. Tucker officially leads the 68,000 student district as of July 1, 2018.


Nearly 1,500 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year, with 42 being named recipients. Of those, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proudly home to four recipients.


When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
