Board of Education aims to create stability by extending contracts for interim superintendent, executive cabinet

CASTLE ROCK – Interim Superintendent Erin Kane and the executive members of the cabinet received an extension to their contracts on Tuesday.

Following a 5-2 vote, the Board of Education approved new contracts for Kane, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Steve Cook, Assistant Superintendent Ted Knight, Chief Financial Officer and Interim Chief Human Resources Officer Bonnie Betz and Chief Technology Officer and Interim Chief Operations Officer Gautam Sethi, which now end on June 30, 2018.

The move, suggested by the Board majority, is expected to provide stability for the Douglas County School District’s teachers, staff and students through the next Board election in November 2017.

Additionally, efforts to begin the search for permanent superintendent may begin soon. The Board voted 7-0 to ask Chief Financial Officer Betz and the Strategic Sourcing Department to provide a recommendation to the Board on a timeline for a Request for Proposal Process (RFP) for a search firm. The search firm would not be chosen before the November 2017 election.
