2015 School Board Director Election

November 20, 2015 Update
Join us in welcoming DCSD's newest Board of Education directors, Anne-Marie Lemieux, David Ray and Wendy Vogel. Douglas and Elbert Counties have certified the results of the election and the new Board members will be formally sworn in on November 30. November 4, 2015 Update 
According to the unofficial results released by the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder's office, Anne-Marie Lemieux, David Ray and Wendy Vogel won seats on the Douglas County Board of Education in the November 3 election. Once certified, election results will be deemed final and the District's newly elected Board members will be sworn-in.

Information about the November 2015 Election
Douglas County School District (DCSD) has established a director district plan of representation. All school directors are voted on at large (i.e. - eligible electors of the school district vote for one candidate from each director district). Three School Board Director seats will be elected at the November 2015 election.

Serving as a DCSD Board of Education School Board Director is a volunteer position. Board of Education Directors serve four-year terms. Meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of the month.  The meeting on the third Tuesday is a full business meeting beginning with a dinner session usually starting at 5:00 p.m. Additionally, work sessions may be scheduled from time to time, generally on the first Tuesday of the month, usually beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a dinner session followed by the work session. Traditionally, School Board Directors also serve on one or more special committees that meet periodically throughout the school year.

Board Member Candidate Qualifications

Pursuant to Colorado State Statutes, a candidate for the office of school director:

Shall be a registered elector of Douglas County School District for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election;
Shall be a resident of the director district for which he or she is a candidate at the time of filing the notice of intention and supporting petition; and
Shall not have been convicted of, plead guilty or nolo contendere to, or received a deferred judgment and sentence for a sexual offense against a child.

Please note that candidate qualifications will be verified through the records of the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder.

Board Member Candidate Obligations

Candidates must file an affidavit with the Secretary of State’s office within 10 days after the person seeking nomination to public office has publicly announced an intention to seek election to public office & thereafter has received a contribution or made expenditure in support of the candidacy.   C.R.S.  § 1-45-101; Colorado Const. art. XXVIII, § 2(2)


Candidate Packets

Candidates may obtain the following documents on or after Wednesday, August 5 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Nona Eichelberger, Designated Election Official, at the Wilcox Administration Building, 620 Wilcox Street, Castle Rock, Colorado. Items in the packet include:

Affidavit that Candidate fully meets the qualifications for the School Director office he/she seeks to hold
Notice of Intent to be a Candidate for School Director
Petition for Nomination, with Circulator’s Affidavits (signatures of 50 eligible electors are required)
Acceptance of Nomination to be a Candidate

The documents referenced above must be completed and returned to Nona Eichelberger at Douglas County School District, Wilcox Administration Building, 620 Wilcox Street, Castle Rock, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Please call the Designated Election Official at 303-387-0258 or email nona.eichelberger[at]dcsdk12[dot]org to arrange a time to turn in documents. Candidates are encouraged to return the completed documents prior to the deadline to allow time for verification of signatures. This will provide the candidate with extra time to obtain additional signatures if the petition is deemed insufficient.

District News

The Douglas County School District Board of Education welcomes Dr. Thomas S. Tucker into the role of Superintendent of Douglas County School District. Dr. Tucker officially leads the 68,000 student district as of July 1, 2018.


Nearly 1,500 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year, with 42 being named recipients. Of those, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proudly home to four recipients.


When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
