Consider your dental health for preventative care

The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled brush that fits your mouth comfortably, so it reaches every tooth surface adequately. You should also floss daily and visit your dentist for regular professional cleanings. Researchers are finding more links every year between poor oral health and systemic diseases. Gum disease causes bad breath, bleeding gums and, if untreated, cavities, The bacteria that are associated with gum infection are in the mouth and can enter the blood stream, where they attach to the blood vessels and increase your risk to cardiovascular disease. 

Good oral hygiene and regular dental examinations are the best way to protect you against the development of gum disease. By being proactive about your oral health, you can protect yourself from developing a connection between oral health and heart disease.

District News

The Douglas County School District Board of Education welcomes Dr. Thomas S. Tucker into the role of Superintendent of Douglas County School District. Dr. Tucker officially leads the 68,000 student district as of July 1, 2018.


Nearly 1,500 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year, with 42 being named recipients. Of those, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proudly home to four recipients.


When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
