Application now available for Board of Education District F seat

CASTLE ROCK – The Douglas County Board of Education has declared a vacancy for the position of Director F, following the resignation of Director Justin Williams.
Williams, who was elected to the Board of Education in 2007 from District F, submitted his letter of resignation to Board of Education President Kevin Larsen in January.  His term expires in November of 2015. 
In accordance with Colorado law, the vacancy will be filled by appointment of the Board and the appointee will serve until the next school board election, in November.
Anyone interested in being considered for appointment should submit a nomination form by midnight February 21, 2014 (the deadline has been extended by one week).
Board duties and responsibilities may include:
a. acting as an advocate for students and public education; 
b. creating a  District vision, mission and goals; 
c. hiring, evaluating and working as a unified team with the Superintendent;
d. establishing District priorities through approval of the budget; and
e. monitoring student achievement and approving changes in the academic program.
Time commitments may include:
a. reviewing supporting materials and information in preparation for bimonthly and Special Board meetings;
b. attending quarterly off-site retreats and conferences;
c. participating on at least one committee or outside entity;
d. keeping current on education/world events and issues; and 
e. attending high school graduations and occasional community events.
Candidates for appointment must:
a. be an eligible elector and resident of the School District for at least twelve prior consecutive months, as shown on the books of the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder;
b. be a resident of Director District F; and
c. not have been convicted of, pled guilty or no contest to, or received a deferred judgment or sentence for sexual offense against a child.

District News

The Douglas County School District Board of Education welcomes Dr. Thomas S. Tucker into the role of Superintendent of Douglas County School District. Dr. Tucker officially leads the 68,000 student district as of July 1, 2018.


Nearly 1,500 Colorado students applied for the prestigious Boettcher Foundation Scholarship this year, with 42 being named recipients. Of those, the Douglas County School District (DCSD) is proudly home to four recipients.


When it comes to mental health services, communities traditionally focus on supporting kids as needs arise. This work is crucial for the safety of our students. Equally important, though, is prevention-based programming that can help, early on, prevent the social-emotional challenges our kids may be experiencing from escalating.
