A Unique Tradition at Fox Creek Elementary
HIGHLANDS RANCH -
Once every month Fox Creek Elementary is transformed. They call it the Northstar meeting. It’s a meeting run by the kids. Singing, dancing, and chanting are the expectation in this meeting.
“Musicians score on average 57 points higher in reading and 41 points higher in math on the high school SAT,” says Principal Brian Rodda. “Exercise like dance and movement boosts brain activity and elevates our mood,” he announces to the kids.
In addition to the dance showcases, there is a time for recognizing outstanding citizenship. Acts of compassion are rewarded with applause in front of peers. “We take time with in our community meeting to celebrate the academic growth that kids have had and the exciting things that they're studying,” says Rodda.
It’s all part of the principal’s vision to create culture, tradition, and belonging. “What I desire with Fox Creek is that you know that this is a special and unique place from the moment you walk in the door.”
